Themed “The Grounded Odyssey”, MaD Festival 2019 continues to explore creative responses to the challenges of our time in a totally new format. In an expanded approach, this edition attempts to contribute to a progressive creative ecology at multiple levels.

Before the much-awaited International Assembly on 12 & 13 January, 2019, the process begins with a series of exchanges undertaken by select Hong Kong-based practitioners across Asia. Insights and know-how acquired in these exchanges will inform grounded projects, and will also be shared with the wider public through outreach. One of the key programs is called “Travel Subsidy Scheme” which aims to remove geographical and financial barriers for participants coming from different corners of Asia. This Scheme especially supports those with financial needs. If you have the means to cover your travel to Hong Kong, please join as a regular participant and reserve resources for those who need them.

Dovetailing this edition’s focus on the creative industries, priority will be given to participants in related fields. Those who are implementing (or have plans for) creative social projects will be favourably considered.

About 200 applicants will be selected to form a diverse community. Selected participants will receive partial subsidies to cover:

  • A two-day full pass for the International Assembly
  • Round-trip train/bus tickets/air fare (please fly only when there are no other options)
  • Accommodation
  • Onshore daily allowance for the 2-day Assembly
