Details: Although Olango Island has a fertile ecological system, the mangroves were destroyed because people there used to deforest them for construction. We aim at rebuilding and protecting those mangroves through nipping mature Kandelia.
Background: VYA has worked with organizations in Philippines since 2008, held functions for protecting mangroves. Through 18 teams, 314 volunteers, over 73000 Kandelia have already been planted which the area is over 1.7 hectare, as large as 50 basketball courts.
