Detail: Paint Can Feed is a charity competition that aims to join the hands of schools, parents, students, and Food Angel to raise canned foods for the underprivileged. Each student participating in Paint Can Feed will purchase a can of food and use eco-friendly materials to design and decorate a new label for the can. Through art, awareness of food waste and hunger issues is raised among students.

All shortlisted submissions for “Best Design Can” will be exhibited at Hysan Place Shopping Mall from 29 September to 13 October 2015. At the same time, schools will compete for the “Most Canned Foods Raised” award.  After the event, all canned foods raised will be sent to Food Angel kitchen to prepare nutritious hot meals and food packs for those in need of food assistance across Hong Kong.

The competition is open to all kindergarten, primary and secondary school students.

Background: Food Angel is an innovative food rescue and food assistance program launched by the Bo Charity Foundation in 2011 with mission of “Waste Not Hunger Not”. The program rescues edible surplus food from local food industry that will otherwise be disposed of as waste. Following a set of strict food safety protocols, the rescued food items will then be prepared into nutritious hot meals and food packs in our two central kitchens and be redistributed free of charge to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong via our logistics team.

Today, we serve over 6,000 Free Hot Meals & Food Packs daily to those who are in need of food assistance and rescue 4,000 kg surplus food from going into our landfills daily.

Duration: Cans will be exhibited at Hysan Place from 29 September to 13 October 2015.

Application deadline: 31 August 2015
