On 28 September 2018, a shallow earthquake struck in Indonesia, with its epicentre located in the mountainous Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi. This event was preceded by a sequence of foreshocks, the largest of which was a magnitude 6.1 tremor that occurred earlier that day. A localised tsunami struck Palu, sweeping shore-lying houses and buildings on its way. The combined effects of the earthquake and tsunami led to the deaths of at least 1,424 people and injured a further 2,549 (As of Oct 3, 2018).

According to the regional head of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), Komang asked the authorities for immediate help. They especially need tents, medicines, medical personnel, tarpaulins, blankets for remedy.

In response to the devastating earthquakes, Asia-based crowdfunding platform Give.Asia & Japan-based crowdfunding platform “CampFire” are running a  crowdfunding campaign in collaboration with Red Cross Singapore and Japan respectively. All donations to the Singapore Red Cross will go towards the purchase of relief items, including first aid supplies, hygiene kits, water systems. Meanwhile Tarpaulins, mosquito nets, blankets and sleeping mats for displaced survivors as well as the longer-term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
